Academic Awards
Rachel received her first academic letter for high school.....she received the letter as well as a special 4.0 pin at an academic awards ceremony to honor the students. We went as a family to support and celebrate Rachel's wonderful accomplishment. (The fact that the culinary arts program provided dessert was also a motivating factor.) I have never placed a great deal of importance on grades....I prefer to have the girls learn for the intrinsic love of learning and not worry so much about a GPA. For Rachel however, grades have always been very important and maintaining a 4.0 is her goal. So I am proud of Rachel for meeting her goal and for being a great student who works really hard. I am also proud of her because she participates in class and is kind and respectful to her teachers and fellow students, both of which have nothing to do with a 4.0 :)
This week also proved to be celebratory for another reason, in that Matt finally got to go back to work. Our house has never been in better shape, thanks to all the time he spent on furlough, but he prefers to actually go to his job and get stuff done. I wish Congress felt the same way.

Great job, Rachel! Whether we like it or not, grades are used by colleges to determine eligibility, so the higher the GPA the better. Kudos to Tammie for doing a great job of home schooling!
