oops..made Mom cry again
Unfortunately, Christmas Eve did not bring us the snow we had wished for this year.  The very mild weather did allow us to trek out on our annual hike with the Salas family though....we made the hike early in the morning to the top of Picacho Peak for a breathtaking view of the entire city.  After the climb to the top we headed over to the Salas house for a Christmas Eve lunch of Posole and Portuguese bread.  We also managed to get in some s'more roasting by the fire.  As usual, we had a wonderful time with our friends and appreciate them more and more every year for the warm memories we continue to make with them.  After lunch, we hurried home to continue our usual night before Christmas traditions.  The girls' present to us is always a production in the 3 Sisters Theatre.  This year's play was The gift of the Magi.  Rachel was the producer and managed to adapt the play to include some modern interpretations and inside family jokes, which were hilarious.  Hannah and Emma had the starring roles and were fantastic.  Matt and I love this gift and it gets better and better every year.  After the performance it is breakfast for dinner followed by gift opening.  On Christmas Eve we open all of our gifts from each other as well as those from our cousins and grandparents...that way, the tree is cleared out and ready for Santa in the morning.  The girls gave thoughtful homemade poems, letters, and ornaments as our gifts, which we always love to receive.  Particularly memorable gifts this year included a board book that Hannah wrote and illustrated for Emma about her trip to the White House...and a set of bowls that Matt made for the girls and me.  After gifts, we headed out in our pj's to look at Christmas lights.  To end the night, we got the kids in bed early and Matt and I watched the Family Stone before heading to bed ourselves.  Good day. Happy family. Grateful beyond words.
