The Easter Bunny visits and Hannah welcomes him on crutches....

Easter weekend brought the usual Kenney traditions this year.  Eggs were dyed...the Easter Bunny left a treasure hunt for the girls to find their baskets....candy was consumed...board games were played....and egg salad sandwhiches were eaten for dinner....this year though, Hannah decided to spice things up around here for Easter.  On Saturday she and Emma were playing outside when Emma came in to the house screaming that Hannah had been in an accident.  We head outside to discover Hannah in the middle of the street unable to move.  Apparently, she and Emma decided it would be a good idea to pull Hannah behind Emma's bike for a joyride.  Did I mention that Hannah was wearing roller skates and that the joyride involved a steep downhill?  Needless to say, knees were not meant to absorb shock (or asphalt).  She had ripped the skin off of both kneecaps and had a nasty gash in one knee.  Luckily, we have friends across the street at our local fire station so we took her over to get their assessment.  We also took her because cleaning out the road rash was better left to a professional.  They cleaned her up and decided that we should probably head to the ER.  They were thinking she may need stitches and also thought that an xray was in order.  They had heard a weird clicking when trying to move her knee (it was actually amazing that they could hear anything over the screaming).  So our Saturday was spent in the ER.  In the end, she did not have to get stitches.  They kind of just folded what was left of the skin back in a called it good.  She had ripped too much off for stitches to be practical.  The recovery has been a real pain for her.  There is a lot of bruising of both knee caps and road rash itself tends to be quite painful as it starts to scab over.(and subsequetnly crack open as you bend your knee, walk, or just generallly try to move your leg in anyway)  I suppose knee pads would be a great birthday gift for Hannah's upcoming 13th birthday!
