Washington D.C. Fieldtrip

We just returned from a week long trip to Washington D. C. We spent the week walking, learning, eating, and more walking. The plan was to see everything we could see....and boy did we accomplish that! The other plan was to supplement our homeschool history studies. It really made an impact on all of us to be in the nation's capitol.  The crowds were gone with everyone being back in school.  On most of the guided tours the girls were the only kids.  We toured the Capitol with our US Representative and got a behind the scenes look at parts of the capitol not everyone gets to see. We saw the National Archives, all the Smithsonian Museums, The White House, The Library of Congress.... the list goes on and on and I have the blisters on my feet to prove it. We all had our favorite parts...Matt was excited to see Thomas Jefferson's library books at the Library of Congress....Rachel enjoyed Mount Vernon....Hannah was thrilled to meet Beau (the 1st dog) when we toured the White House.  Being a stamp collectore, she also enjoyed the Postal Museum....Emma loved the power train (the metro) being the kid of an urban planner she was bound to love public transportation....as for me, I think that the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument was a highlight.  As usual, we feel really lucky to have taken this trip with the kids.  We all learned a lot and hope to go back some day.
