County Contest 2012

Last weekend was our 4-H county Contest.  All 3 girls participated and had a great time.  This post, however, will contain only information, video, and photos of Emma.  You know how some parents with more than 1 child are always blamed for leaving the last child out of scrapbooks and photo albums.  They are too busy or tired by the time the last kid comes around to take any photos or record any personal memories (how many times have we heard the sob story of only having 1 picture "from the hospital" from Matt)....  We are so obsessed with not doing that with Emma that we end up forgetting all about the older 2 because "hey, they have already been to county contest and who really cares what awards they got anyway."  So if this blog seems heavy on the Emma posts, that may be the reason.  Besides that, she is the most photogenic and looks really cute in pigtails.

On to county contest.....All 3 girls entered a speech in the Public Speaking competition this year.  Emma won 1st place and was selected to give her speech to the entire auditorium at the evening awards ceremony.  She was so excited.  The video quality is a nightmare because we had a 4-h kid hold the camera and she had her finger over the speaker.  And the random arm you see holding the mic is none other than Matt.  He came in to save the day when the mic clip refused to work on Emma's dress.  What a guy.  Emma's speech was titled "just go outside and make mud pies".  She was inspired to write it when I asked her what she was passionate about and she looked at me with a blank stare and responded "nothing Mom,...... I'm a kid and I just want to go outside and make my mud pies." I told her to write an essay about that and at first she was hesitant because she thought it would sound dumb against all of the other more serious speeches.  Once she wrote the speech though, she loved it and ended up feeling very passionate about it.  Apparently the judges liked it too!  We are so proud of Emma.  She delivered the speech to a full auditorium and did a fantastic job.
